Jeremy Corbyn given squidgy stress relief present day before PMQs

Labour leader has been caught out with a new squeeze - a toy that he grasped to ease his tension before asking questions in Parliament

JEREMY Corbyn has been caught out with his latest squeeze — a squidgy toy.

The Labour leader was given the stress relief present the day before PM’s Questions on Wednesday.

He was seen playing with the fire engine toy just before he got to his feet to question Theresa May in the weekly duel.

One MP, who spotted the toy, said: “The adrenaline must have been going as he was giving it several tight squeezes before he got up.

“At one point he seemed to be showing it to those around him on the front bench.

"As he rose to ask his question he seemed to stuff it in his pocket before he started asking his six questions.”

It is thought to be the first time the Leader of the Opposition has brought such a toy into the Chamber.

Mr Corbyn went on to compare the Government’s Brexit negotiating strategy to the crisis on the country’s railways during the encounter with the PM.

One source said: “He should bring the fire engine in every week. He beat the PM hands down.”

The hand-held stress-reliever was a gift from the Fire Brigades Union and was given to him on Tuesday when he attended their annual conference in Brighton.

The FBU was one of the first unions to back Mr Corbyn’s leadership bid and decided to re-affiliate with the party weeks after he was elected.
