VALENTINE'S DAY is today, which can only mean one thing – the battle of the supermarket meal deals is in full swing.
Sainsbury's is the latest retailer to release its dine-in offer for couples who want to stay in the comfort of their homes and save a bit of cash.
The bundle, which costs £16.25 overall, includes a steak, two sides and a bottle of pink fizz.
Lovebirds will be able to share a huge 470g rump steak, which comes with a heart shaped pink peppercorn butter.
For the sides, the deal includes some sweet potato fries as well as an Italian salad.
Sainsbury's is also offering bottle of its sparkling Pinot Rosé, which is selling for a discounted £7.50 until February 27, to toast the occasion.
What's included in the deal from Sainsbury’s?
HERE's what is included in the bundle:
- Sainsbury’s Rump Steak x2 with Heart Shaped Pink Peppercorn Butter 470g – £6.
- Taste the Difference Sparkling Pinot Rosé - reduced to £7.50 until February 27, usually £9.
- Sainsbury’s Sweet Potato Fries - £1.50.
- Sainsbury’s Italian Style Salad 60g - £1.25.
The supermarket insisted that the offer is not "an official meal deal" but rather a "great value option" that is "cheaper" than a number of other offers from rivals.
A spokesperson said: "Staying in is officially the new going out this Valentine’s, so we’re helping customers avoid cliché set menus and jam-packed restaurants with this great value option.
"Steak and bubbly is a classic and a real crowd pleaser, so at only £16.25 for the full meal, it’s a deal not to be missed. The heart-shaped pink peppercorn butter is a nod to romance and makes it a fuss-free option for those who don’t want to spent all evening cooking.”
More Valentine’s Day deals and offers
But Sainsbury's bundle does not include a starter, a veggie option for the main or even a pudding or choccies.
To compare, the £15 bargain bundle for two from Asda includes a full-three course meal with booze.
Mains include a juicy rump steak slowly matured over 28 days, pasta primavera, a British pork and chorizo stew or chicken with asparagus and a Prosecco pie among other things.
Those who are looking for a cheaper supermarket deal, you can pick up a meal for two from the Co-op for £6 but it only includes a main for two and two side dishes or one side and dessert.
None of the retailers have flowers included in their bundles except from Lidl, which launched its first ever Valentine's Day deal this year.
